Next I explained the steps to follow. As I had already asked for all my students’ e-mail addresses and I knew most of them had one, I told them they could write their introductions and e-mail them to me and that I would be in charge of uploading them to the blog.
They didn’t write immediately so I had to insist a couple of weeks later. By that time, we had already covered the topic “likes and dislikes” so when I insisted on the subject I asked them to add thei
Luckily and to my surprise, I got the pieces of writing of 5 students a few days later. But they forgot about the photos. I uploaded the info and sent all my students an e-mail (including those who hadn’t written anything) to
So I think adults like blogging or at least the idea of posting their information on the internet. The big setback –in my opinion- was the students’ lack of time and tiredness, but above all, the lack of experience in this type of activity. What do YOU think?

Do adults like blogging?
Last year I was assigned a level 1 course for the second term starting in August. About three weeks after the beginning of the course, I explained to them -in Spanish- that teachers at the Liceo were working on a project to integrate technology into their classes and asked them if they were interested in being part of it.

I think adults lack time and are very tired but the main setback here is that they are afraid of trying new things and see what happens! Don`t you agree? Sometimes this happens to me.
Apart from the lack of time and tiredness, I think the idea of being digital inmigrants also affects our use of the tool. Adults need to be shown what and how to do things much more than teens or kids, who are not afraid of experimenting. So, guiding them a bit more than we do with younger students may be a starting point.
Great project, Sonia!!!
Congrats
Pat
Sonia, you did a wonderful job! Students were really involved!!

Thanks for sharing your experience with us. I think adults do like blogging, maybe if they get used to doing it throughout the year, they'll be finally hooked on it!

Hi Sonia and everybody. I entered this blog a long time ago when you shared it through the yahoo group, and I remember that I loved reading about the students and their interests. I think that adults do like blogging, if the see its purpose. A friend of mine who is a recent mum has made a blog with their twins photos and through it we can all learn news about the kids, see how they are growing, to put it in a nutshell, we keep in touch! Thanks to this friend's blog I learnt what a blog is and how useful and fun it can be. Any student can go through the same process I did providing they are exposed to blogging. I'm sure you took a big step in this regard with the work you've done with Level 1. COngratulations!

Betty, Pat, Carmen, Giselle and Valeria, thanks for your comments!!
Reading your posts, I can say that we agree on the idea that adults like blogging and that we have to find a way to overcome their tiredness, lack of time and the fact that they're new to this kind of tool. As Pat said, we could start by showing them in detail how to use the tool, and to make them feel that blogging has a real purpose, as Valeria wrote. So if we're successful in this, and are able to convince them that it's worth and harmless trying new things, as Betty suggested, we’ll have more and more adults communicating through our blogs in the near future?
Big hug,
Sonia
Hi, Sonia! I think the best thing to do is keep trying. This takes time and as students progressively start sharing with their classmates the excitement of the experience more people will give it a try.
Tiredness and lack of time have always been excuses, excuses...
Cecilia
Sonia, youn have done very well.
I´d like to do that, too.
Hi Sonia! Great work! I think we are all getting started with this so don`t worry! I very much agree with you on the question of students being exhausted and lacking of time. Isn`t this true for us too? I think we can plan "a little" time for these things. If we all try it, we will get a nice result. It`s really worth trying!
Big kiss,
Ana Paula.
Dear Sonia,
I really think your project was a very good idea, even more since you put it into practice with beginner students. I think it was great of you to send it to all your students, even the ones who hadn't contributed, for them to see it and get motivated. It may take time, with some students even more than with others, but if we insist, they'll end up getting engaged. Good job!

Hi Sonia!
I really like what you did but I think that you need to give them more time. Many adults are scared of using the internet so I think that if you show them that they can do it if they want to and that it is for fun, they will start experiencing little by little!! Thanks for sharing this!

Hi Sonia! Don´t you think we are always afraid of experimenting new things? To me it´s a matter of time...not only for students but for teachers too(it happens to me ). It´s a great idea of you to start trying it!!! Congrats! Diana.
Sonia, I agree with all of you and I think that adults who don't know how to handle this could be given a detailed info as to how to go about it, i.e. a list of all the steps to follow -at least I would need it to do it myself the first time!

Although perhaps the results of your experience did not live up to your expectations, it might have been a starting point, and as so it's hard at the beginning. It's not only students, it's also us who have to ge used to blogs. Anyway, congrats on your try. It's always worth GETTING STARTED!
